abstract

  • With the increase of disasters around the world, the need to improve the response becomes crucial. In many countries worldwide, this response arrives in for of in-kind donations. This chapter presents two numerical applications of a Markov Decision Process. In the first one, the existence of a Monotone Optimal Non-Decreasing Policy is tested under the five conditions defined by Puterman. The second is a case study of a hurricane Katia in Mexico where the behavior of the policy is evaluated, and a sensitivity analysis of the operating costs is performed. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.
