- The digitalization of health systems worldwide is considered the alternative to face the enormous challenge of increasing capacity and improving the quality of care for the population. This modernization requires a paradigm shift from a physician-centered approach to a person-centered approach. In this context, all healthcare processes are migrating from hospital-centric to more virtual and distributed, using advanced technologies like the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence. This chapter analyzes the advances and challenges of integrating artificial intelligence into healthcare, from basic biomedical research, where its use has allowed the identification of new molecules and the development of new drugs, to the stage of clinical application in which many expectations still need to be met. We discuss the ethics and regulatory affairs challenges of medical solutions that have integrated artificial intelligence algorithms. We propose a road map incorporating these technologies to support the person-centered care attention paradigm.
