Introduction on the Concept of the Aesthetic of Regenerative Design and Development

While the challenges for the socioecological future are becoming harder and harder, the idea of a ¿sustainable development¿ is no more enough: is clear the need for new concepts and strategies within contemporary design, able to propose innovative solutions to regenerate our original environments. While the concept of not only limiting socio-environmental damage but actively restoring and regenerating existing ecosystems is not new in the field of design, its focus on the Latin-Mediterranean context, rich in environmental resources and architectural traditions, has not been extensively explored. In this region, where concerns about socioenvironmental decisions meet debates in practice and academia, a formal collection of experiences, good practices, and theoretical considerations is more than ever needed. A seven-year-long collaboration among Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico) and University of Pavia (Italy) set the bases for this book, which aims to provide the initial foundation for this necessary ¿formal collection¿.
