The advent of information and communication technologies (ICT) has significantly transformed educational institutions, compelling them to adapt their practices and pedagogical approaches. Among the preferred tools by educators are serious games and simulations, which allow students to solve real-world problems in a risk-free environment, enhancing their understanding of complex phenomena and expanding their knowledge base. This study aims to present and describe the design of V-Logistic, an educational serious game that enhances learning outcomes and decision-making strategies in supply chain systems. The V-Logistics simulator was designed to teach logistics concepts and while forecasting complex thinking and self-directed learning skills. In this paper, we present the development of a case study within the simulator, along with student perceptions after playing the game and making decisions. Thirty industrial engineering students participated in the study, providing feedback on various aspects of the simulator. The results highlight the importance of immersion, challenge, playability, motivation, fun, usability, and player satisfaction in the effectiveness of serious games. Additionally, the survey revealed that students value the simulator¿s ability to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, the realism of the simulations, and its role in developing strategic decision-making and critical thinking skills. The findings suggest that incorporating these elements can create a more engaging and effective learning environment, better preparing students for professional challenges. However, areas for improvement were identified, particularly regarding the ease of use and the interface of the simulator. Future work should focus on expanding the study to a larger and more diverse group of students and exploring the integration of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality, to further enrich the learning experience provided by educational serious games. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
