A business process is a structured set of interrelated activities that organizations employ to achieve specific outcomes. Similar to product design, business process design involves multiple stakeholders with diverse value judgments, objectives, and priorities. This paper introduces BP-SCAMPER, an adaptation of the SCAMPER technique to support the design and redesign of business processes. BP-SCAMPER - which applies Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate, and Reverse to business process components - provides a systematic framework for analyzing, improving, and transforming business processes to enhance efficiency, flexibility, and innovation. By using BP-SCAMPER, process designers can critically evaluate existing business processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop streamlined workflows. Through an order-fulfillment example, this paper demonstrates how BP-SCAMPER fosters creativity, and facilitates the generation of innovative solutions. The findings also indicate that BP-SCAMPER is a methodology that is also simple to use. © 2025 The Authors.
