Puente-Garza, César Armando
Overview
Researcher, professor, and entrepreneur whose career blends applied science, technological innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. With a background in Engineering and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Tecnológico de Monterrey, he has built a career focused on the study of bioactive compounds, plant micropropagation, and the design of biotechnological processes with impact in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries.
Since 2016, he has served as a full-time professor in the Department of Bioengineering at ITESM, where he has co-designed training units in biotechnology and food sciences, as well as graduate programs. His research within the GIIE Nutraceuticals and Emerging Technologies group has led him to explore plant secondary metabolism, develop tissue culture techniques, and collaborate with industry on high-impact projects, such as the development of bioactive peptides with anticancer potential.
As an entrepreneur, Puente Garza co-founded NABIAK, a company focused on developing pigment-based solutions for food and cosmetics, with applications in entertainment. This experience allowed him to integrate technical knowledge with project management and industrial regulation, skills he has strengthened through diplomas in innovation, intellectual property, and project administration.
As a consultant, he has worked with Pfizer on biotechnology-related litigation in Latin America, providing technical analysis in protein engineering, antibody generation, and bioprocesses, specializaed in Intellectual property. He also serves as an expert witness in biotechnological products, covering various pharmaceutical-related topics.
His academic output includes numerous publications in high-impact scientific journals and patents related to bioactive compounds and in vitro cultivation techniques. He has actively participated in national and international conferences, sharing innovative methodologies and research findings that connect science with real-world applications.
