Vallejo-Novoa, Leopoldo Arturo

Overview

Writer for literature and the screen, D. candidate in Philosophy of Science in the field of Philosophical and Social Studies of Science and Technology with a Media Studies and visual ethnography project (video and photography) to study the participation of amateurs and the role of digital technologies in the production of scientific knowledge. I have about 12 years of teaching experience in institutions such as Tec de Monterrey, UNAM and UNITEC. I am currently a full time professor in the Media and Digital Culture Departments at Tec de Monterrey. I specialize in film, literature and media studies at STS. My research uses qualitative written and visual methods (mainly video) to study diverse phenomena related to audiovisual media, popular culture and technoscience. As a creator, I am the author of the novels No tengo tiempo (2008) and Última vez en Plutón (2016), both published by Alfaguara. My most recent book, Te vas a morir (Secretaría de Cultura, 2017), is an essay on film, science and literature around life-extending technologies. For my career as a creator, I have been awarded prizes such as the Caza de Letras for short novel, the Miguel Covarrubias from INAH in 2007 as part of the MIDE team and in 2011 and I was a fellow of the FONCA-CONACYT Artistic Residencies Program at the Banff Center for the Arts, in Alberta, Canada. Professionally, I recently wrote the scripts for the documentary series Cosmovisiones, for TV UNAM, and the scripts for the scientific culture podcast Natural Born Curious. Previously, I developed audiovisual materials with Estudio Multimedia Cocolab for the Citibanamex Valparaíso museum and held the position of Director of Content and Experience Design at MIDE, Museo Interactivo de Economía. As Content Director of the museum, I wrote and produced more than 20 documentary pieces. During this period I also specialized in the design and development of educational and scientific communication products in written, audiovisual and digital formats.
