Rivas-Gómez, Elfide Mariela

Overview

Elfide Mariela Rivas-Gómez Architect with a PhD in Architecture and Urban Affairs. She is a full-time research professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey, School of Architecture, Art and Design, Campus Monterrey, and a member of Mexico s National System of Researchers (SNII), Level I. She previously taught Urban Planning at Universidad Simón Bolívar in Caracas, Venezuela (2006 2016), and held managerial positions at the National Housing Council and the Housing Institute of Miranda State between 1999 and 2016. In the private sector, she coordinated projects focused on the physical rehabilitation of popular neighborhoods and urban-environmental interventions in Venezuela. She has also served as a postgraduate professor at the School of Architecture of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. Her research focuses on informal urbanization, community-based risk governance, gendered processes in the social production of habitat, and urban resilience, with particular attention to vulnerable cities and housing challenges in the Global South. She coordinates active research and service-learning projects with student fellows, fostering collaborative practice and the development of professional and soft skills.
