Villalobos-Escobedo, José Manuel

Overview

Dr. José Manuel Villalobos Escobedo holds a degree in Biochemical Engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Mexico. He earned both his master's and doctoral degrees in Biotechnology from CINVESTAV-Irapuato. Subsequently, he served as a visiting professor at the Advanced Genomics Unit-LANGEBIO. Since 2020, Dr. Villalobos Escobedo has been a Level 1 member of Mexico's National System of Researchers (SNII). Between 2021 and 2024, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, where he focused on the functional genomics of fungi and bacteria. He is also the co-founder of MVP-Bioagro, a company based in Irapuato that specializes in applying beneficial microorganisms and molecular diagnostics to enhance agricultural crop production. Since February 2024, Dr. Villalobos has been a research professor at the Obesity Research Institute of Tecnológico de Monterrey.
