Salas-Ambrosio, Pedro Javier
Overview
Pedro Salas-Ambrosio received his B.Sc. in Pharmacy from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 2013 and his M.Sc. in Sciences from UNAM in 2015. He earned his Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry from the University of Bordeaux and the University of Toulouse (France) in 2021. He completed his postdoctoral training at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) from 2021 to 2026, where he focused on the development of bioinspired polymers and functional biomaterials for biomedical applications. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Engineering and Sciences at Tecnológico de Monterrey and a researcher at the Institute for Obesity Research (IOR).
His research focuses on: (1) the design and synthesis of biodegradable and biomimetic polymers from bio-based building blocks, (2) the development of functional biomaterials for drug delivery, regenerative medicine, and antimicrobial therapies, and (3) the development of bioactive materials to modulate biological responses in infectious, inflammatory, and cardiometabolic diseases. He has authored more than 15 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, is co-inventor of a European patent, and is a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers (SNI) at the Candidate level.
