Martagón-Rosado, Alexandro José

Overview

Doctor Alexandro Martagón is alumni from the first class of the MD PhD program at Tecnológico de Monterrey. He initiated his professional studies in 2006 at Escuela de Medicina y Ciencias de la Salud, TecSalud, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Biosciences in 2010. He conducted his doctoral studies at the Houston Methodist Research Institute from 2011 to 2013 with the thesis "Thyromimetic-mediated clearance of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, insulin sensitivity restoration and its mechanism". In 2014, he came back to México to complete his clinical education, obtaining his MD degree in 2016. Dr. Martagón is currently completing a Master in Clinical Translation Management at University of St. Thomas ¿ Houston, from which he will graduate in December of 2018. In 2016, Dr. Martagón joined the department of Endocrinology at Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán (INCMNSZ), and in 2017 moved to Unidad de Investigación de Enfermedades Metabólicas (UIEM), a collaboration between INCMNSZ and TecSalud. He has been a significant contributor for the development of UIEM, which currently runs several clinical research protocols, published various scientific articles, and obtained important grants for its current activities since its opening in February of 2017. Dr. Martagón is member of Sistema Nacional de Investigadores Nivel I, and has more than 150 citations with an h-index of 5. His current interests are the identification of genetic variants present in Mexican population, which predispose them to develop metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, and dyslipidemias. The characterization and understanding of the latter will aid in determining appropriate approaches for metabolic diseases in our own population. One of the latest contributions he has been part of, is the development of the Familial Hypercholesterolemia Mexican Registry. Apart of his research activities, Dr. Martagón is a professor at TecSalud Mexico City Campus, School of Medicine.
