X. Yamile Sandoval-Castro has a solid academic and research background in soft robotics and intelligent robotic systems. She earned her BSc in Communication and Electronics from Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas, MSc in Instrumentation and Automatic Control from Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, and PhD in Advanced Technology from Instituto Politécnico Nacional.
From 2016 to 2023, she served as a researcher in the SECIHTI National Research Program at the Research Center for Applied Science and Advanced Technology (CICATA-IPN), where she conducted research on service robots using both rigid and soft materials, covering design, modeling, and manufacturing. She has lectured at Universidad Politécnica de Querétaro, Tecnológico Nacional de México, and TecMilenio, and supervised PhD and master¿s theses. Her work has been published in scientific journals and presented at international conferences.
In July 2023, she joined the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at Tecnológico de Monterrey as a faculty member, where she teaches robotics and carries out research on smart mechanisms, bio-inspired design, complex geometries (origami and kirigami), novel manufacturing methods, and soft material applications. She is co-founder of the Hybrid Soft Robotics Lab, the first specialized laboratory in soft robotics in Mexico. Additionally, she coordinates Women in Robotics Querétaro, fostering female participation and gender equality in robotics.
