Chan Vun: Technology-based learning for indigenous schools without internet access: the case of schools Academic Article in Scopus uri icon

abstract

  • ICT access and use varies for the most remote and marginalized communities, such as indigenous communities. In Mexico, these communities have limited and marginal access to ICT use, infrastructure, and Internet connectivity. Therefore, it is necessary to choose technological and educational approaches that are adapted to the needs and are efficient. The following are the results of the evaluation of a technology-supported pedagogical system that provides indigenous elementary schools, without access to technological devices or the Internet to reinforce academic content, with the possibility of creating an intranet in a school classroom. This system also provides access to educational materials to reinforce the curriculum, improve academic performance and develop key learning skills. The pilot study involved 150 students from two schools in indigenous communities located in the municipalities of San Cristobal de las Casas and Chamula, in the State of Chiapas, Mexico. The results indicate that the system has the necessary components for its systematic use by both teachers and students. © 2025 IEEE.
