abstract

  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are of high significance for humanity, and Higher Education Institutions are key stakeholders advancing knowledge and action toward them. Integrating the SDGs into the curriculum not only supports student learning but also equips them with the tools they need for their professional practice. One effective approach is their incorporation into capstone projects. This study analyzed student engagement in applying SDGs to real-life challenges within a capstone course. Results showed that teams addressing multiple SDGs developed stronger solutions than those focusing on a single goal. A strong correlation was also observed between academic performance in the capstone project and the overall course average. Moreover, collaboration with an industry partner enhanced the understanding of the relevance of the SDGs for diverse stakeholders. and the educational partner who provided the problem deepened the students' understanding of the importance of SDGs for different stakeholders. Overall, incorporating SDGs into coursework enriches learning and provides students with holistic tools for addressing industrial challenges in their future careers.
