abstract

  • © 2020 ACM.Computer graphics are indispensable elements in software application to simulate industrial processes, such as chemical reactions, product manufacturing and logistics systems. This article shares how geometric transformations are used to teach kinematics of industrial robots in an Integrated Manufacturing Systems course of the Mechatronics Engineering curricula. The novelty consist of using rigid body concepts together with graphics computer elements to develop a 2-dimensional simulator of an industrial robot with an anthropomorphic configuration of two degrees of freedom, putting into practice their acquired knowledge about geometric transformations. To know the students' perception about the use of this implementation, two surveys were applied: 1) to a group without using the new teaching system, and 2) to a group using the new teaching system.
