  • © 2021 Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME)Additive Manufacturing (AM) parts are attractive for many applications. AM can produce parts of complex geometries in small batches with short lead times in a wide range of materials. While parts are commonly used in non-load bearing functions, improving mechanical properties can help expand their use in engineering applications. This work evaluates the effects that AM process conditions have on part strength. The relationship between design characteristics and path planning induced imperfections is discussed. The effects that raster gaps and internal voids have on the compressive strength of composites are analyzed based on the results of compressive tests and computer simulations.
