abstract

  • Educational innovation is a strategic initiative that universities have been integrating into their efforts for the continuous improvement of the teaching and learning process, and as a response to the demands of the environment and the profile of today's students. The purpose of this research is to analyze cases of educational innovation to define a process of design, development, and implementation of innovative resources in engineering programs, which will facilitate other institutions that want to get involved in the use of technology for innovation in education. The research methodology is qualitative, using multiple case studies. The stages that were followed are: the definition of the cases of educational innovation with technology, description of 3 cases in engineering courses, comparative analysis of the cases and conclusions with a model using the process approach. The institutional strategy of educational innovation is integrated by the allocation of resources, constant training of teachers and staff with knowledge in educational technology, pedagogical advisors, and multidisciplinary work. The experience of design, development, and implementation of resources for educational innovation allows for the systematization of processes in each of the stages that lead to the successful completion of the innovative projects, that impacts to the learning experience of the student and the engineering of the future. Educational innovation supports competency-based education, which uses active learning as one of its fundamental elements, impacts on student engagement not only with their course but also with the discipline they are studying and facilitates the student's learning process. Defining models that facilitate the educational innovation strategy helps to ensure the impact on the purpose of universities: the training of young people with life skills to transform our organizations and society into a better world. © 2024 IEEE.
