Effective water and wastewater treatment as well as water distribution are necessary to guarantee the basic quality of water, which has a positive impact in people¿s health. Industry 4.0 can provide many advantages over its predecessor that could benefit the water treatment industry in quality enhancement and cost reduction. Water treatment has many areas of opportunity: there are leaks, poor water quality that causes health problems, and other issues. In this chapter, readers will realize how the implementation of Industry 4.0 can greatly improve the efficiency of the processes. Applying this philosophy to water treatment plants, we may easily identify or even prevent leaks, procuring better water quality, saving money by eliminating any part of the process which does not bring value to the consumer, and overall, guaranteeing a better-functioning plant. Based on this, application of Industry 4.0 to the water treatment and distribution industry would result in a more competitive and efficient sector.
