The development of online courses has increased significantly, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. However, university students and students at lower levels worldwide demand that once the pandemic is over, these courses be offered in smaller quantities, since they find this modality of classes tedious, and they do not manage to complete their learning process. Moreover, Education 4.0 trends, where the students are more responsible for the knowledge they acquire, increase the need for better design of activities and the use of new pedagogical technologies to minimize this feeling on the part of the students. Tecnologico de Monterrey developed a new modality for their online classes, the Elite Course, which takes some main elements of Education 4.0, as well as other pedagogical trends, such as Artificial Intelligence for education. During the fall 2023 semester, for the first time, five groups of the IN1003B Smart Logistics Networks course were offered to students, which is a course offered for all undergraduate academic programs at Tecnologico de Monterrey, with two in the Elite modality and three in the traditional online modality. Using a set of surveys, we compared the results between both modalities, giving us important insights, such as a significant better evaluation for the Elite modality and a well perception about the use of AI for learning purposes no matter the program of the students. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
