Overview
Dr. Patricia Segura-Medina obtained her Bachelor's Degree with honors in Veterinary Medicine at Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México (UNAM). She was recognized with the Gabino-Barreda Medal and Mexico´s Best Students Silver Medal in 1990. In 1992. She earned her M.Sc. degree in Physiological Sciences at UNAM, Mexico and the Doctorate in Biomedical Sciences in Pharmacology and Toxicology at UNAM, Mexico in 2000. During this period, she completed a doctoral stay at the University of Liège in Belgium. Her current research efforts are focused in air pollution and related health effects. Specifically, she has focused on the effects of particulate matter at the experimental level. She has more than 36 publications, including four chapters of specialized books in their area of knowledge. Additionally, she has participated in the presentation of more than 60 free papers in various International Congresses and 65 National Congresses; as well, she has been invited to give a dozen national and international conferences. She has directed four postgraduate theses and more than twenty theses of bachelor's degree as a tutor and co- tutor. Nowadays, she works as Head of the Bronchial Hyperresponsiveness Research Department of the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases (INER). Dr. Segura-Medina is Professor at the Medicine School of Tecnológico de Monterrey (Tec de Monterrey) since 2005. She has obtained multiple institutional national awards, including: "Borrego De Oro" and "Profesores que dejan huella" Prize as best professor in 2015 and 2018 respectively. She also received the 2016 "MujerTec" Award in Science and Technology. Dr. Segura-Medina is member of multiple organizations, including the Scientific-Technical Committee of the REDCAM (Red Temática de Investigación en Contaminación Atmosférica y Mitigación del Cambio Climático) and the National Researchers Council (Level II).
