Dr. Ana Laura Isabel de la Garza Hernández is an Associate Professor and Researcher at the Institute for Obesity Research (IOR), Tecnológico de Monterrey. Her scientific work has focused on understanding how the interaction between diet, genetics, gut microbiota, and metabolism influences the development of obesity and other chronic diseases, aimed to advance in more personalized prevention and treatment strategies. Studied at the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon and the University of Navarra (Spain), she complemented her career with research stays in Austria, Spain, and, recently, at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where she strengthened her expertise in metabolomics and multi-omics analysis. This international perspective has allowed her to consolidate scientific collaborations with research groups in Europe and the Americas, contributing to the generation of cutting-edge knowledge in nutrition, gut microbiota, early metabolic programming, and nutrigenomics.
Throughout her career, she has promoted a line of research that integrates experimental models and clinical studies to understand the biological mechanisms that link diet to health. Her contributions have been published in international scientific journals and have received over 1,500 citations. She has also maintained a commitment to human resource development, supervising undergraduate and graduate theses and encouraging young students to actively participate in research projects and publish their results in international journals.
Furthermore, she spearheaded the creation of the Ibero-American Network of Nutriomics and Precision Nutrition (RINN22), an initiative that promotes the integration of researchers from different countries to strengthen the development of precision nutrition in Ibero-America.
