Jonathan Montalvo-Urquizo is a Professor at the School of Engineering and Sciences at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where he contributes to advancing knowledge in Data Science, Numerical Methods, Mathematical Modeling, and Optimization. He also serves as President of the Mexican Society for Scientific Computing and Applications (SMCCA), a role that highlights his leadership in promoting scientific computing and its applications across Mexico. With a strong background in both academia and industry, Prof. Montalvo-Urquizo is an experienced consultant and entrepreneur, bridging the gap between theoretical research and practical innovation. He earned his Dr.-Ing. degree from Universität Bremen, Germany, in 2008, with a dissertation on the "Simulation and Optimization of Laser Welding on Aluminum Alloys," a work that showcased his expertise in applying mathematical models to industrial processes. Prior to this, he completed his M.Sc. in Industrial Mathematics at Technische Universität Kaiserslautern, Germany, in 2004, specializing in Scientific Computing and Mathematical Modeling. His academic achievements have been widely recognized, including the prestigious Sotero Prieto Award for the best mathematical thesis in Mexico, as well as multiple awards from local and federal governments. As a mentor, Prof. Montalvo-Urquizo has guided numerous research projects that have received accolades at ExpoIngenierías, particularly for their innovative software prototypes and significant social impact. Beyond academia, he is the CEO of Modeling Optimization and Computing Technology (MOCTECH), where he leads efforts to develop and implement cutting-edge technical solutions in areas such as Production Programming, Industry 4.0, Predictive Maintenance, and Manufacturing Processes. His work at MOCTECH exemplifies his commitment to driving technological advancements in manufacturing and industrial applications. Since 2009, he got the appointment as member of the Mexican Research System (SNI) due to his scientific contributions to the fields of mathematics, engineering, and computational sciences. Prof. Montalvo-Urquizo is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and the SMCCA. Currently, he serves as President of the SMCCA, where he continues to promote the development and application of scientific computing in Mexico and beyond.
