Escamilla-de los Santos, José Guadalupe

Overview

Dr. José Escamilla has been the Director of TecLabs ¿ Learning Reimagined, the disruptive Educational innovation unit of Tecnológico de Monterrey since June 2016. (http://teclabs.io/en/) He received a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, in Grenoble France in October 1993, and an M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the same University in June 1989. From June 2015 to May 2016, he has been the Director of Educational Innovation of Tecnológico de Monterrey. From May 2014 to May 2016, he has also been the Director of the Observatory of Educational Innovation (http://www.observatoryedu.com/). He was directly responsible for the initial courses offered in Coursera by Tecnológico de Monterrey in 2013 From September 2010 to February 2013, he has been the Dean at the Graduate School of Education of the Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM). From January 2009 to August 2010, he was Europe Corporate Director of Tecnológico de Monterrey in Madrid, Spain. He was responsible for opening the Madrid office of Tecnológico de Monterrey and in charge of offering continuing online education to more than 100,000 employees of the BBVA Bank worldwide. From March 2003 to December 2008, he has been the Dean at the Graduate School of Education of the Tecnológico de Monterrey. From April 2007 to December 2008, he is also the Director of Innov@TE ¿ Center for Innovation in Technology and Education. From June 1997 to February 2003, he directed the Master's degree in Educational Technology in the Virtual University of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, in Monterrey, Mexico. He developed, with the collaboration of the University of British Columbia, a joint degree in this area. From January 1999 to February 2003 he directed the Master's degree in Information Sciences & Knowledge management at Tecnológico de Monterrey's Virtual University. From January 1999 to May 2002, he directed the Center for Educational Technology of the Graduate School of Education. From March 1996 to May 1997, he directed de Master' degree in Intelligent Systems He has worked as a consultant for companies, universities & government (IBM; World Bank; UNCTAD; Minister of Education of Saudi Arabia; Minister of Education of Argentina & 7 National Universities: Salta, Jujuy, Misiones, Nordeste, Formosa, Comahue & Patagonia Austral; University Ramón Llul in Spain; CONAFE; UASLP; UNIVERSIA; OEA and INTEL). He is a member of AERA He was part of the founding Board of directors of the Open Courseware Consortium president of REDIIEN - Red de Investigación e Innovación en Educación del Noreste de México, and part of the technical committee of the IDEELEON ¿ Instituto de Evaluación Educativa de Nuevo. He has served as an evaluator for CONACYT (Mexican equivalent of the NSF) and CIEES (Committee for peer evaluation of degree programs). Dr. Escamilla has given seminars and conferences in the USA, Canada, Latin America, the Middle East, and Europe. Dr. Escamilla has published two books: Selecting and Using Educational Technology, Trillas, 2000, and An Introduction to the Internet, Trillas, 2000, selling more than 25,000 copies. Dr. Escamilla's research has been published in journals as well as in the memories of conferences and workshops. His current research interests include the use of Information technologies for teaching and learning. He is chair of the Global Higher Education and Research (GHEAR) Global Challenge Steering Group for The Worldwide Universities Network. He is a member of the International advisory committee of the Institute for Ethical AI in Education, the Digital Credentials Leadership Council, and the Coursera Council. He is active in his Edutrends podcast (https://observatory.tec.mx/edutrendspodcast) and writing about educational innovation and the use of technology in higher education and lifelong learning.
