Palafox-Sánchez, Victoria
Overview
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at BUAP (Autonomous University of Puebla) and actively participated in research from that early stage, rotating through various laboratories. Upon graduating, I immediately began my postgraduate studies, completing my Master's and Doctoral degrees in Chemical Sciences at the same institution. My research up to that point focused on studying the side effects of the standard drug for Parkinson's disease and testing therapeutic alternatives in experimental models. After completing my Doctorate, I went to UCLA, USA, where I spent over two years as a postdoctoral researcher. The research group there was pioneering a more holistic approach to brain diseases, and we studied how the body's metabolic state affects brain response and promotes neurodegenerative diseases. We began studying the liver-brain and gut-brain axes using various preclinical approaches. When I returned to Mexico, I joined Tec de Monterrey as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the IOR, where we tested new treatments for cardiometabolic disorders and studied the impact of early stress on the development of these disorders in adulthood.
