Butt,Sabur

Overview

My role at IFE is centered around leading interdisciplinary projects that explore the convergence of Natural Language Processing and Education. I earned my Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science from the Centro de Investigación en Computación, Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN). My current research interests include the design and evaluation of small language models and efficient modeling techniques for languages with limited computational resources, including indigenous Latin American languages and South Asian languages (e.g., Urdu). I am particularly interested in personality, emotion, and complex affect detection, investigating how linguistic patterns reflect human behavior and psychological traits. At the intersection of AI and education, I focus on human-centered NLP applications, such as employing large and small language models to provide adaptive feedback, conduct semantic learning analytics, and enable dynamic skill assessment, while prioritizing accessibility and inclusivity.
