Sáenz de Miera-Cuatlayol, José Antonio

Jose Antonio is an Industrial Designer with a Master's degree in Architecture and New Urbanism, both obtained at the Tecnológico de Monterrey. He has over 16 years of experience combining teaching with independent professional work, primarily in the furniture industry. For 4 years, he held key roles at the Universidad de Ciencias y Desarrollo (UDES) in Puebla City, Mexico, including: Coordinator of the Industrial Design program, Deputy Administrative Director, and General Director of the University. At Tec de Monterrey, he has served as a lecturer, full-time professor, academic program director, and currently holds the position of Associate Director of the Design Department in the Central-Southern Region. He has taught a wide range of courses related primarily to product design, from Design Fundamentals to Design of Technology-Based Products and Entrepreneurship. In 2015, he was recognized as the best-evaluated professor in the Industrial Design Department, and in 2016, he received the recognition of "Inspiring Professor" at the Puebla Campus. In 2020, he was recognized as part of the "Circle of Distinguished Professors" by the National Deanship of the School of Architecture, Art, and Design at Tec de Monterrey. He has collaborated on research projects under the NOVUS program, specifically developing a project called the "Sensory Urban Laboratory" that integrates design thinking tools into public space analysis projects. He participated in designing training units for the Tec21 curriculum model, collaborating with colleagues from different campuses across the country. He has mentored students in projects that have had outstanding participation or won various competitions, such as Jump Chile, Comprometidos ¿ Argentina, 8vo Encuentro bid_ Madrid, Inc Monterrey ¿ Mexico, James Dyson Award, RSA Student Design Awards, National Design Award "Diseña México", Enactus México, among others.
