Fierro-Radilla, Atoany Nazareth

Overview

Atoany Nazareth Fierro Radilla received the B.Sc. degree in Communications and Electronics Engineering (2012), the M.Sc. degree in Microelectronics Engineering (2015), and the Ph.D. degree in Communications and Electronics Engineering (2019) from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), Mexico. In 2012, he joined Huawei Technologies, where he worked as a radio communications engineer and later as a GSM (2G) customer support engineer for Latin America, participating in large-scale telecommunications projects. In 2015, he completed an international research stay at the University of Electro-Communications (UEC), Tokyo, Japan, focusing on deep learning and computer vision, strengthening his expertise in applied artificial intelligence. From 2020 to 2021, he was a member of the Mexican Society for Artificial Intelligence (SMIA). He has delivered national and international talks and authored more than a dozen scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. In 2021, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Oxford Immune Algorithmics, with research activities conducted in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) and Reading (United Kingdom). That same year, he received the Best Paper Award for ¿Similarity Learning for CNN-based ASL Alphabet Recognition¿. In 2022, one of his papers was nominated for the Best Paper Award at the Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (MICAI). He was recognized by Tecnológico de Monterrey as a pioneer in Artificial Intelligence in 2023, and in 2024 obtained professional certifications in Artificial Intelligence from Huawei and in Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) from Duke University. In the same year, he was appointed Assistant Professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey. He has implemented the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) methodology with partner institutions in Chile and Ecuador and has taught university entrance mathematics preparatory courses for high school students. He is the founder and leader of the Mixtli student group, guiding teams in national robotics competitions, and serves as Vice President of Megurokai, the alumni association of the University of Electro-Communications in Tokyo. Currently, Atoany Fierro is a full-time researcher and professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM), Campus Cuernavaca. His research interests include computer vision, image processing, machine learning, and deep learning, with a focus on interpretable AI, medical imaging, and academic integrity.
