Combination of Traditional Teaching and AI-Guided Self-Directed Learning on Theoretical Learning and Academic Performance in High-Workload Immunobiology Courses Academic Article in Scopus uri icon

abstract

  • This study examined the impact of integrating an AI-guided self-directed learning tool (MagicSchool) into the theoretical module of a high-workload immunobiology course. Academic performance in 2025 was compared with that in 2023 and 2024, and student motivation was assessed using the MUSIC Model of Academic Motivation Inventory. The AI-assisted group achieved higher theoretical module and exam scores than the previous scholar periods (p < 0.0001) and higher final course grades by 2024 (p = 0.0238). The motivation scores were high for usefulness, success, caring, and empowerment, although interest was low, suggesting the need for various learning strategies. These findings indicate that AI can complement traditional teaching to improve performance and support motivation; however, sustaining curiosity requires diverse and interactive methods.
