Hybrid and Immersive Environment with Virtual Reality and 3D Printing for Teaching Secondary Bonds in Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Materials Science, and Biology: Implementation Proposal Academic Article in Scopus uri icon

abstract

  • This article presents an implementation proposal for an immersive learning environment designed to enhance the teaching of secondary bonds in chemistry by integrating virtual reality (VR) and 3D printing. Traditional methods for teaching secondary bonds often rely on two-dimensional representations, which limit students' ability to visualize and interact with molecular structures. To overcome this limitation, the proposed framework combines a virtual environment for immersive molecular exploration, 3D-printed physical models to provide tangible learning experiences, and traditional instruction as a baseline.Grounded in prior work on immersive VR, embodied/haptic interaction, and STEM/chemistry education, the paper presents a conceptual model, key implementation details, and an evaluation protocol to support future validation and adoption in real-world courses. The proposal also addresses scalability and ethical considerations.By integrating digital immersion with tangible models, the proposal aims to provide a practical, testable pathway for developing a system to improve conceptual understanding of secondary bonds while maintaining feasibility for classroom deployment.
