Magaña-Aguirre, Jonathan Javier

Overview

Dr. Jonathan J. Magaña obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacological Biologist Chemistry at National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 2002. He obtained a M.Sc. degree and Ph.D. degree in Genetics and Molecular Biology at CINVESTAV, México, in 2005 and 2008, respectively. He also has a diplomate in Pharmaceutical administration. Immediately after obtaining his degree of Ph.D. he entered as a researcher at the most important Reference Center for neuromuscular diseases in Mexico (National Rehabilitation Institute), where he quickly achieved his independence as a research group leader and has been awarded with the second highest ranking for Healthy Mexican researchers (Research in Medical Sciences level "E"). His research interest is focused on the integration of molecular diagnostic, genomics, genetic engineering and molecular characterization of neuromuscular and neurodegeneration, as well as aging, and the use of molecular tools and nanotechnologies into biomedical, biopharmaceutical applications, and biotechnological therapies. He has published more than 70 international scientific publications, 5 national articles and 3 book chapters, he has participated in 150 national and international conferences, 68 symposiums and has been obtained 7 grants as principal investigator. Dr. Jonathan J. Magaña is the corresponding author for about 50% of his publications. He is reviewer in 17 recognized international journals and editor in chief of a national journal. At moment, he has conducted 4 undergraduate, 21 medical specialty, 11 masters and 8 doctoral theses. He belongs to the National Researchers Council as Level 2 researcher (SNI 2) and is also member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences. Also, Dr. Jonathan J. Magaña is member of steering committee of Pan-American Hereditary ataxia Network. From march 2020 to date he has occupied the position of Head of the Bioengineering Department, Mexico City Region in Tecnológico de Monterrey. Finally, he has obtained multiple national and international awards, including "Esti¿mulo a las Investigaciones Me¿dicas Miguel Alema¿n Valde¿s" and "Premio de la Academia de Ciencias de Cuba".
