Mendoza-Montoya, Omar

Overview

Dr. Omar Mendoza Montoya obtained his Bachelor¿s degree in Electronic Engineering with a specialization in Instrumentation and Control from the Instituto Tecnológico de Chihuahua. He later earned a Master¿s degree in Computer Science from the Center for Research in Mathematics (CIMAT) and a Ph.D. in the same field from the Free University of Berlin. In both graduate programs, he specialized in computational statistical methods and machine learning for the analysis and decoding of biosignals. After completing his master¿s degree, he collaborated on research projects at CIMAT focused on developing statistical techniques for the analysis of brain signals. He also participated in projects with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), working on automated classification of archaeological artifacts using 3D models. His doctoral research focused on the development of brain¿computer interfaces to control robotic devices through brain signals. Following his Ph.D., he worked for two years at Charité ¿ Universitätsmedizin Berlin, where he developed neurofeedback applications and conducted experiments involving simultaneous recordings of brain activity during collaborative tasks. Since 2018, he has been part of Tecnológico de Monterrey, Guadalajara campus, initially as a postdoctoral researcher and currently as a faculty researcher in the Department of Computer Science. His main research line focuses on signal analysis through machine learning, emphasizing the development of technologies for rehabilitation and therapy based on brain signals, applied in clinical settings at the National Institute of Rehabilitation (Mexico City) and the Zambrano Hellion Hospital (Monterrey).
