Beltrán-Pérez, Carlos

Carlos Beltrán Pérez, PhD, MSc, BEng, obtained his degree in Industrial Engineering from the Autonomous Metropolitan University - Azcapotzalco in 2008. He continued his academic training with a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, obtained in 2012. Subsequently, in 2019, he obtained a PhD in Automatic Control and Systems Engineering from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, where he also served as an assistant lecturer for the postgraduate course 'State-space, nonlinear and optimal control'. Between 2011 and 2012, he conducted a research stay at the University of Chile with Dr. Andres Weintraub, focusing on the sustainable use of natural resources. Between 2013 and 2014, he worked as a business consultant at Sintec Consulting, Mexico, specializing in Business Analysis and Optimization (BAO), where he developed optimization models for logistics and demand forecasting. Currently, Dr. Beltrán is a full-time professor in the Department of Transformation Engineering and Computational Technologies at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Toluca Campus. He is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) at the Candidate level for the 2023-2028 period, and he is part of the graduate faculty at the School of Engineering (EIC) of Tecnológico de Monterrey (Doctorate and Master of Science in Engineering programs). His research areas include machine learning, the modeling of nonlinear dynamic systems, and their applications in areas such as the determination and reuse of expired pharmaceuticals to inhibit steel corrosion, generating less polluting alternatives and preventing the release of harmful substances into water that affect ecosystems. He also investigates operations research models for natural resource management and industrial engineering problems (such as the optimal use of paper for corrugated cardboard machines) and data analysis. He is a member of the Mexican Society for Operations Research (SMIO) and has authored and co-authored publications in peer-reviewed and indexed international journals and conferences.
