Dr. Shirley Mora-Godínez obtained his first degree with Honors in Biotechnology Engineering from the Tecnológico de Costa Rica. She received her M.Sc. in Biotechnology (2018) and Ph.D. in Biotechnology (2022) from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico. Her undergraduate and graduate theses were awarded with honors and focused on microalgae biotechnology for CO¿ capture and byproduct generation, integrating omics approaches¿from genomics to metabolomics¿for biological system characterization.
Dr. Mora-Godínez is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for Obesity Research, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey. She is a Level 1 Scientist in the Mexican National Research System (SNI). Her work focuses on omics-driven translational research applied to microbial systems in human health, food sustainability, and biotechnology. Her current research centers on host¿microbiome interactions, particularly the role of the human gut microbiome in health and disease and its modulation through diet. She also contributes to the development of innovative technologies to preserve nutrients and extend the shelf life of fresh produce.
As an early-career scientist, she has authored 12 original research articles published in peer-reviewed journals. She is committed to advancing biotechnological innovation, intellectual property development, and scientific entrepreneurship, with a pending patent application and participation in entrepreneurship programs.
