Overview
Dr. Ryan Anders Whitney is an Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture, Art, and Design and a Fellow in the Center for the Future of Cities at Tecnológico de Monterrey. His research agenda focuses on the local and global dynamics that shape the circulation of policy models related to urban planning and governance. Ryan holds a PhD in Urban Planning from the University of Toronto. Before joining Tecnológico de Monterrey, he was a Visiting Postdoctoral Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Development Studies (Cider) at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá. Academically, his research has been published in leading journals such as The International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, The Journal of the American Planning Association, Environment and Planning C: Politics and Space, Urban Geography, Cities, and Geoforum. He is currently working on research projects related to planning equity in Mexican cities, the adoption of social urbanism in Mexico, and the expansion of urban labs across Latin America. Ryan is also an active practitioner, having worked on projects related to sustainable mobility, participatory urban planning, and inclusive climate action in countries including Canada, Mexico, Colombia, France, and Tanzania. He currently lives in Mexico City.
