Whitney,Ryan Anders

Overview

Dr. Ryan Anders Whitney is a full-time Profesor Investigador in the School of Architecture, Art and Design at the Tecnológico de Monterrey. His research program focuses on the intersections between urban sustainability and equity, exploring the local and global dynamics that influence the circulation of sustainability policy models. Ryan holds a PhD in Urban Planning from the University of Toronto. Prior to joining the Tecnológico de Monterrey, he was a Visiting Postdoctoral Scholar in the Interdisciplinary Centre of Development Studies (Cider) at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá and was the Program Coordinator for the Sustainable Planning and Development Certificate Program at Seneca College in Toronto. Academically, his research has been published in journals that include the Journal of Planning and Education Research, the International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, Urban Geography y Environment and Planning C: Politics and Space. Ryan has presented his research at over 25 academic and practitioner conferences. He is currently working on research projects related to queer nightlife circuits in Mexico City, the uptake of social urbanism in Mexico, the expansion of urban laboratories in Latin America, and planning equity in Mexican cities. Ryan is also an active practitioner, having worked on projects related to sustainable mobility, participatory urban planning, and inclusive climate action planning in countries that include Canada, Mexico, Colombia, France, Tanzania, and the United States.
