Hernández-Zarate, Debbie Crystal
Overview
Debbie is member of the National System of Researchers since 2018. In 2007, she received the B.Sc degree in Electronics Engineering from the Universidad Tecnologica de la Mixteca, Huajuapan de León, Oaxaca. She received the M.Sc., and D.Sc., degrees in Automatic Control from Centro de Investigacion y de Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Politecnico Nacional (CINVESTAV-IPN) in 2011 and 2015, respectively. She occupied a postdoctoral position at the Faculty of Engineering at UNAM. She has collaborated in research projects with UNAM and CONACyT. She has published research papers in high impact journals in the automatic control area (singular systems, sliding-mode control, differential flatness and strong observability) and in the area of ¿¿educational innovation (remote laboratories and digital shadows). Her areas of interest include: control of non-holonomic systems, fault identification and isolation, power systems, energy efficiency, vibrations, solitons, symmetries and bifurcations in algebro-differential systems, robotics, data science, artificial intelligence and educational innovation.
Debbie leads two educational innovation projects since 2022: the first on the design and implementation of a remote electronics and automatic control laboratory, and another on the evaluation of the impact of using technological resourses (remote, virtual laboratories, shadows and digital twins , among others) for teaching mathematical modeling and control engineering. This last project is carried out in collaboration with the Brazilian EdTech Algetec+. Since 2023. Debbie has been advisor of the student group "Women in Engineering" (MING). Since 2022, she is leader of the group "Women in Engineering Movement" (WiEM) in Campus Puebla, and since 2024 she has been a member of the IEEE and advisor of the student branch. She has been a reviewer of JCR research papers for prestigious journals in the area of ¿¿mathematical modeling and control systems (European Journal of Control, International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, among others). She has also been an evaluator of CONAHCYT, CONCYTEP and SEP calls. Debbie was a co-advisor of a master degree thesis in 2023-2024, and she is co-advisor of a PhD thesis since 2024.
