Research Areas:
- Immunomodulatory mechanisms mediated by the use of proteins, peptides, natural compounds, and nanoparticles.
- Cytotoxicity mediated by nanomaterials and chemical agents.
- Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antifibrotic, and cell death mechanisms mediated by natural compounds in cardiovascular pathologies.
- Interdisciplinarity in university learning through the creation of radio capsules for scientific and artistic dissemination.
Dr. Carlos Enrique Guerrero-Beltrán is a Professor-Researcher at Tecnológico de Monterrey (Nuevo León, Mexico), leading, training, and motivating young researchers to carry out new research proposals and projects, generate knowledge, new perspectives, and work with multidisciplinary groups. Dr. Enrique Guerrero holds a Bachelor's degree in Experimental Biology from the School of Biology at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) and a Bachelor's degree in Music Education (Piano) from the same university. He holds a Master of Science and a Doctorate in Science from the Faculty of Chemistry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
He completed a research stay at the National Institutes of Health/National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIH/NIAAA) in Maryland (USA). He was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Physiology, Biophysics, and Neurosciences at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (CINVESTAV-IPN). He also completed a postdoctoral stay in the Cardiovascular Medicine group at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM). He was a Postdoctoral Professor within the Molecular Medicine focus group and a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Nanomedicine at the Houston Methodist Research Institute in Houston, Texas (USA).
Currently, Dr. Guerrero Beltrán is a full-time Research Professor at the School of Medicine of Tecnológico de Monterrey and is part of the Metabolic Diseases research group. Dr. Enrique Guerrero Beltrán is a member of the National System of Researchers (Level 2). He has published 30 articles in indexed journals, with over 1400 citations. He is a guest editor for the journal Pharmaceutics (MDPI, Basel, Switzerland) and has served as a reviewer for Editorial Planeta, among other journals.
His research focuses on the in vitro and in vivo study of immunomodulatory mechanisms mediated by the use of proteins and peptides, as well as the toxic and pro-oxidant effects of nanomaterials and chemical agents. He has also studied the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antifibrotic, and cell death mechanisms mediated by natural compounds in cardiovascular and renal diseases. Recently, he has specialized in understanding heat shock proteins and their function in metabolic and regulatory mechanisms at the cellular level.
Finally, Dr. Guerrero-Beltrán has worked extensively in the dissemination, outreach, and connection of science and the arts, creating and producing radio segments on science and art, popular science articles, and videos on Hispanic American viceregal art (http://www.musicavirreinal.com). He has led workshops at the VIBRART arts and culture festival and has collaborated extensively with the Mexican State Public Broadcasting System: SPR, RadioEducación, TecScience, Radio UDEM, Radio y Televisión UASLP, among others.
