Morales-Nava, Rosmarbel

Overview

I hold a Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences, am a Level 1 member of Mexico s National System of Researchers (SNII), and have served as an adjunct professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Puebla Campus, since 2019. My academic and professional trajectory has developed at the intersection of applied research, teaching, educational innovation, and talent development in science and engineering, with an interdisciplinary perspective focused on academic excellence, real-world problem solving, and meaningful impact. I have completed five years of postdoctoral research funded by SECIHTI, as well as a postdoctoral appointment at The University of Iowa as a Fulbright scholar supported by the U.S. Department of State. This training strengthened my international outlook, my ability to collaborate in academic environments, and my vision for integrating research, teaching, and innovation in high-level higher education settings. My research experience encompasses biotechnology, bioengineering, organic synthesis, and the derivatization of bioactive compounds, as well as the development of bioproducts with applications in health, sustainability, and technology. I have worked on projects focused on the sustainable valorization of agro-industrial residues and the recovery of value-added compounds, contributing to circular economy approaches and technological development. For six years, I have advised bioproduct development projects with an emphasis on bioseparations, bioprocesses, and unit operations design, supporting student training in areas related to process engineering and helping them develop competencies in systems analysis, conceptual scale-up, and process integration. I have developed experience closely aligned with bioengineering education, particularly in contexts where experimental design, the understanding of process variables, the separation and transformation of biological products, and the articulation of scientific foundations with engineering applications converge. This perspective enables me to contribute to the strengthening of academic programs that require integration among scientific, biological, and process-based courses. In the field of synthesis and characterization of bioactive compounds, I have conducted scientific work focused on the design and evaluation of molecules with therapeutic potential. As a result of this line of research, I am an inventor on granted patents in Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Europe related to an antifungal compound derived from Amphotericin B. This work has strengthened my experience in innovation, intellectual property, technology transfer, and university industry collaboration. My academic trajectory is also reflected in 17 indexed publications, including scientific articles and book chapters, as well as in my continued participation in national and international conferences and academic forums. In parallel, I have built a strong line of educational innovation in science and engineering through gamification strategies, experiential learning, and the design of active and challenging learning experiences for STEM students. Since joining Tecnológico de Monterrey, Puebla Campus, I have maintained a strong commitment to the holistic development of my students, close support for their academic growth, and the creation of meaningful learning environments, which has been recognized through outstanding ECOA teaching evaluations. My profile combines strong scientific training, academic productivity, teaching experience, an interdisciplinary vision, and a vocation for innovation. I seek to continue contributing to the strengthening of the Bioengineering area through the integration of teaching, research, and engagement, particularly in topics related to bioprocesses, bioseparations, unit operations, and the education of engineers capable of transforming their environment with rigor, creativity, and purpose.
