This research derives from the university's commitment to the U.N. sustainable development goals, specifically Goal 3, ¿Good Health and Well-Being.¿ Do universities provide environments that foster well-being and, thus, a state of happiness? This paper presents the results of a measurement conducted on a group of 204 students in various disciplines and semesters at a Mexican university, where a scale to measure their happiness level was applied. Methodologically, a multivariable descriptive statistical analysis produced results identifying primary happiness-associated indicators. The main finding is that the majority of the students identify as being happy or moderately happy, highlighting the effectiveness of strategies designed to promote a high level of overall well-being. Furthermore, significant gender differences in the perception of happiness were observed, underscoring the need for inclusive and personalized approaches in student well-being programs. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
