Franco-Morgado, Mariana

Overview

Dr. Mariana Franco Morgado holds a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Biochemical Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, a Master of Science in Biotechnology from the Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados IPN (CINVESTAV) and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). She completed a research stay at the University of Valladolid in Spain. Additionally, she carried out a postdoctoral stay at the Institute of Engineering of UNAM and is currently undertaking her second postdoctoral fellowship at the School of Engineering and Sciences at Tecnológico de Monterrey. Dr. Franco has over 10 years of teaching experience in subjects related to Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology Engineering, and Chemical Engineering. She has authored 14 research articles in indexed journals and one book chapter. She has participated in numerous national and international conferences as both an organizer and speaker. She has supervised and co-supervised various undergraduate, master's, and doctoral theses. She is a Level 1 member of Mexico's National System of Researchers (SNII). She was one of the five global finalists of the Chemistry for Climate Action Challenge 2025 by the Elsevier Foundation. Her research interests include the growth of microalgae, the production of valuable metabolites using photosynthetic microorganisms from agro-industrial residues, the design and operation of bioreactors and photobioreactors, biogas upgrading, and the treatment of effluents from anaerobic digestion.
