María Luisa Del Prado Audelo has been a full-time lecturer in the Department of Sustainable Technologies and Civil Engineering at Tec de Monterrey since 2021. She holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM). Dr. Del Prado studied an MSc and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at the Materials Research Institute (IIM) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). During her doctoral studies, she focused on developing new materials based on biopolymers for soft tissue engineering and their physicochemical and biological characterization. After that, she spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher in the Chemistry Faculty of UNAM, developing new biopolymeric nanocarriers for drug delivery as new treatments for neuronal diseases. Her research has been awarded the second "Alzheimer 2019-2020" prize by the Moisés Itzkowich foundation-FUNAM, the second the "Pharmaceutical innovation 2020" prize by the Mexican Pharmaceutical Council, the first "BLIS 2019" prize (awarding innovation-and-sustainability new leaders) by COMECYT, the second of "Santander Bussines Innovation 2019" prize, among others. Currently, her research efforts involve the elaboration of nanosystems for encapsulation and sustained release as alternative treatments for different disorders such as cancer and neuropathology. Furthermore, she is working on the evaluation of natural polymers (and their surface chemical modification) as aerogels with potential application in water remediation.
