Ramírez-Orozco, Aldo Iván

Overview

Dr. Aldo Iván Ramírez Orozco holds a Civil Engineering degree, a Master of Science in Hydraulic Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Hydrology. His professional experience includes various positions in the Government of Michoacán, the Mexican Institute of Water Technology (IMTA), and the Water Research Center in Querétaro. Dr. Ramírez has over 35 years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in addition to giving continuing education courses. He has supervised 26 master's theses and five doctoral dissertations. He has written and supervised over 220 technical reports. He has 41 publications in peer-reviewed journals (SCOPUS) and 74 in national and international conferences and has given close to 70 invited lectures. He is the author or co-author of ten books, twelve book chapters, and has edited three technical works. He also holds two technological developments. He is currently a professor in the Department of Sustainable and Civil Technologies and a collaborator at the Climate and Sustainability Research Hub. Additionally, he is the Director of the Water Center at Tecnológico de Monterrey. He conceived and founded the Strategic Decisions Hub (NED). In 2010, he was recognized with the Enzo Levi National Award for Research in Hydraulics. Dr. Ramírez was a Full Member of the Follow-up and Evaluation Committee of the National Program against Drought, a board member of the Technical Geological and Hydrometeorological Council of the State of Nuevo León, and a Member of the National Committee on Large Dams. He served as the National Coordinator of the International Initiative on Floods within the Mexican Committee of UNESCO's International Hydrological Programme. He is a Full Academician of the Mexican Academy of Sciences. He also serves as a Counselor for the Metropolitan Environmental Fund of Monterrey, a Vocal Counselor on the Rio Bravo Basin Council, a Counselor for the Technical Committee for the Operation of Hydraulic Works (Conagua), and a Counselor for the Ministry of the Environment of Nuevo León. He served as Vice President of the Mexican Association of Engineering, Science, and Environmental Management (AMICA), in addition to belonging to other committees at the municipal, state, and national levels. He is currently a National Researcher Level 2 of the SNII (National System of Researchers) from SECIHTI. In 2022, he received the George W. Fuller Award from the American Water Works Association. He was also recognized with the Award for Teaching Excellence and the National Inspirational Professor Award. In 2025, he was included in the publication "300 Leaders in Mexico," among the "50 most influential leaders in the water sector."
