Contreras-Torres, Flavio Fernando

Overview

SHORT BIO: Flavio F. Contreras-Torres hold his Doctor in Science (2007) degree in Chemistry from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, at the Institute of Nuclear Science, and under the supervision of Prof. Vladimir A. Basiuk. In 2008-2010, he was a National Fellow from DGAPA, as junior researcher, arriving to the Institute for Applied Science and Technological Development. In association with Prof. Elena Golovataya-Dzhymbeeva, he participated in CONACYT and ICYTDF projects in order to create the Advanced Microscopy Laboratory. In 2012, he moved back to the Department of Physics of Plasmas (2012-2013), and under the supervision of Prof. Alejandro Raga, he was focused in developing research on numerical integration methods to resolve a special type of differential equations (Stiff ODEs) for studying chemical reactions in the ISM. From 2013-2015, he was a visiting researcher at the University of Arizona. In 2016, Dr. Contreras-Torres arrived to the Tecnológico de Monterrey as a professor-researcher for the School of Engineering and Science. Since then, he is the responsible and coordinator for the Nano and Microstructures Laboratory. His research interests are mainly focused on the microstructural properties of nanomaterials to gain fundamental basis for developing further applications in nanomedice/nanotoxicology, diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Flavio F. Contreras-Torres has published in Applied Surface Science, Journal of Physical Chemistry, International Journal of Quantum Chemistry, Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, Journal of Computational Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering C, Astrophysical Journal Letters, Computational Materials Science, Spectrochimica Acta, among others scientific journals. His scientific work currently includes 52 published refereed scientific articles, three-book chapters (Scopus Index h = 12). He is an Associate Editor for the Materials Today Proceedings journal. Dr. Contreras-Torres is currently a member of the Nanotechnology Faculty as a researcher for the graduate program in Nanotechnology (MNT/DNT). He is a member of the National System of Researchers (CONACyT, SNI-level 1). He is a regular member of the American Chemical Society (USA) and the International Union of Crystallography (UK). He was lecture of several undergraduate courses including: Modern Physics, Introduction to the Physics of Materials, Thermodynamics, Experimental Physics, and Fundamentals of Nanotechnology. AREAS OF STUDY: (1) Development of novel nanomaterials for diagnosis and treatment. (2) Noncovalent interaction between nanosystems and biomolecules using quantum chemical methods from Density Functional Theory (DFT). (3) Biophysics for in-silico identification of allosteric sites for protein-coupled receptors. (4) Microstructure of nanocrystalline materials from X-ray line profile analysis. (5) Programming in C++, Fortran, Pyhton and Matlab computational languages. ORCID ID: https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2375-131X SCOPUS ID: 8717623100
