Dr. Alejandro Aguilar is a research professor at the GIEE in Bioprocesses and Director of the Postgraduate Programs in Biotechnology at Tec de Monterrey. He is an Industrial Chemist, graduated from Master and PhD in Biotechnology at Tec de Monterrey. He has more than 10 years of experience in teaching and research, has directed and co-directed more than 12 master's and doctoral theses through his research. The research projects he develop include the design of purification processes for PEGylated proteins and other industrially-relevant compounds, he also works on the use of microbial cultures to obtain metabolites of pharmaceutical interest as well as for the production of metallic nanoparticles via fermentation. He has worked in the development of bioprocesses at different scales, from microdevice to a pilot-plant scales. His newest recent research line deals with the design, manufacture and proof of concept of microfluidic devices with integrated sensors for the detection of biomarkers.
In 2014 he was promoted to Associate Research Professor and in that same year he was awarded with Teaching and Research Award at Tecnológico de Monterrey. Dr. Aguilar belongs to CONACYT's National Researchers System (SNI) as Level 2 and he is member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences.
