Overview
Andres D. Garcia (BCE 1994, MCs 1997, PhD 2000) was born in Mexico City, on January 1972. He received the BS in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the Tecnologico de Monterrey (Monterrey's Inst. of Tech). In 1997 He obtained his MCs. Degree in Electronics for Telecommunications Systems and in 2000 his Ph.D. in Electronics and Communications, both degrees from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (Telecom-ParisTech), France. In 1997, while in his MCs. Research activities, he participated in a European Project called ATLANTIC whose goal was to design a MPEG-2 Encoder. As a Research assistant, Dr. Garcia has participated in a project financed by Schlumberger-France whose goal was the design and implementation of a digital 64 channel demodulator. Recently, Dr. Garcia participated in a CEE project of the 7th Framework Program called OASIS, whose main goal is the development of Open Reference Architecture and Platforms, which will enable and facilitate interoperability, seamless connectivity and sharing of content between different services and applications for elderly people. Dr. García was in charge of the Graduated Programs on Engineering and Manufacturing Systems from 2006 to 2010. He was head of the E&E Department from 2010 to 2011 and head of the Mechatronics Department from 2011 to 2015. Dr. García is currently Dean of the School of Design, Engineering and Architecture at the Tecnologico de Monterrey, Campus Estado de Mexico. His research interests are focused to the study and implementation of low-power DSP architectures based on partial & dynamic reconfigurable architectures. Dr. Garcia is author and co-author of 30 research papers. He is member of the following institutes and associations: the Mexican Society of Computer Sciences, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the French Association of Electric and Electronics Engineers. Dr. García is member of the National Committee of the National Association of Faculties and Schools of Engineers (ANFEI) and member of the National Committee of Engineering and Technologies of the Interinstitutional Committees for the Evaluation of Academic Programs (CIEES).
