De la Garza-Hernández, Ana Laura Isabel

Overview

Dr. Ana Laura Isabel de la Garza Hernández is a Professor and Researcher at the Institute for Obesity Research (IOR), Tecnologico de Monterrey, where her work focuses on integrating nutrigenomics, metabolomics, and precision nutrition to better understand the complex relationship between diet, metabolism, and chronic diseases. She holds a bachelor¿s degree in nutrition (2005) from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL), a master¿s in nutrition and metabolism (2010), and a PhD in Food Science, Physiology and Health (2014) from the University of Navarra, Spain. She is currently a PhD candidate in Applied Bioethics at the Anahuac University, Mexico. Her main research line is Functional Nutrition, with a focus on the effects of diet on gene expression, gut microbiota, and metabolic health. She has supervised undergraduate and graduate theses, participated in academic evaluation committees, and published in internationally indexed journals, with more than 2000 citations and an H-index of 17. She is a membership of the National System of Researchers, Level II. She has carried out academic and research stays at the University of Vienna, Austria (2013), National Autonomous University of Honduras (2018), University of Chile (2018), Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain (2023), and most recently at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, USA (2024-2025). Dr. de la Garza served for over ten years as a Professor at the School of Public Health and Nutrition, UANL, where she taught courses such as Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics in the bachelor¿s degree in nutrition; Human Nutrition and Metabolism, and Nutrition and Disease in the master¿s program in Nutrition Sciences. She also held leadership roles as Research and Innovation Coordinator (2016-2018) and as Head of the Nutrition Research Unit (2018-2023), leading studies in food science, health, and bioethics. She is a founding member of the Ibero-American Network of Nutriomics and Precision Nutrition, a collaborative initiative aimed at fostering knowledge exchange and advancing research across the Ibero-American countries.
