Dr. Flavio F. Contreras-Torres is a core Researcher of the Experimental Medicine Unit at the Institute for Obesity Research, Tecnológico de Monterrey (2022¿present), and Research Professor at the School of Engineering and Science (2016-present), where he leads the Nano and Biostructures Research Group (2019¿present).
From 2012 to 2014, he served as a Research Associate in the University of Arizona (USA). He was awarded other postdoctoral fellowships, including those from DGAPA (UNAM, 2008-2010), ICYTDF (Mexico City, 2010-2011), and CONAHCyT (2011-2012). He completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the Nuclear Science Institute (UNAM, 2004-2008), focusing on the formation of cyclic amino acids derivatives onto nanosurfaces.
He is a member of the National System of Researchers of SECIHTI (SNII-2), the American Chemical Society, the International Union of Crystallography, as well as the Sociedad Química de México (SQM) and the Sociedad Bioquímica Mexicana (SBM). Additionally, he has served as a Guest Editor for Materials Today Proceedings (Elsevier) and as a reviewer for multiple scientific journals.
He has authored 67 publications (Scopus h-index 17 with 908 citations), contributed to one patent, supervised two PhD thesis, five MSc theses, and mentored two postdoctoral fellows.
His current research focuses on ligand-receptor interactions, novel nano and biomolecular scaffolds, and predictive modeling for metabolic disorders and obesity-related diseases.
