Dr. Flavio F. Contreras-Torres is a core Researcher of the Experimental Medicine Unit at the Institute for Obesity Research, Tecnológico de Monterrey (2022¿present), and Research Professor at the School of Engineering and Science (2016-present), where he leads the Nano and Biostructures Research Group (2019¿present).
From 2012 to 2014, he served as a Research Associate in the University of Arizona (USA). He was awarded other postdoctoral fellowships, including those from DGAPA (UNAM, 2008-2010), ICYTDF (Mexico City, 2010-2011), and CONAHCyT (2011-2012). He completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the Nuclear Science Institute (UNAM, 2004-2008), focusing on the formation of cyclic amino acids derivatives onto nanosurfaces.
He is a member of the National System of Researchers of SECIHTI (SNII-2), the American Chemical Society, the International Union of Crystallography, as well as the Sociedad Química de México (SQM) and the Sociedad Bioquímica Mexicana (SBM). Additionally, he has served as a Guest Editor for Materials Today Proceedings (Elsevier) and as a reviewer for multiple scientific journals.
He has authored 67 publications (Scopus h-index 17 with 912 citations), contributed to one patent, supervised two PhD thesis, five MSc theses, and mentored three postdoctoral fellows.
His current research focuses on chemoinformatics, computational biophysics, and developing predictive models for drug discovery, with particular emphasis on metabolic disorders and obesity-related diseases.
