Overview

Dr. Carolina Senés is an associated professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Campus Guadalajara since 2018. Since 2019 she has been the Chair of the Bioengineering Department in the West area of Mexico. She obtained a Bachelor of Microbiology from the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon (UANL, Mexico), a Master´s degree in Biotechnology from Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico) and a Doctoral degree in Biological Sciences from the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU, Germany). She was a postdoctoral researcher at Tecnologico de Monterrey in Campus Monterrey from 2015 to 2018. Dr. Senés specializes in microbial ecology and has collaborated in several national and international projects related to the analysis of microbial communities in plants, soil and water ecosystems using transcriptomic, metabarcoding and metagenomic approaches. Since 2017, she is a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers. She has directed/co-directed 15 thesis (master´s and doctoral degrees) and is an author of 40 publications, including journal articles and book chapters.
In a world confronted with an increasing human population, one of the main challenges is sustainable food production without negative impacts on valuable natural resources. I am interested in the molecular characterization of plant associated microbial communities (microbiomes), their behavior (transcriptomes) and how to use microorganisms for human benefit, creating environmental-friendly solutions.
