Gradilla-Hernández, Misael Sebastián

Overview

Dr. Misael Sebastián Gradilla-Hernández has been a professor at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Guadalajara since 2011, currently as a full-time professor. He was the General Director of Environmental Protection and Management of the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Development of the government of Jalisco, Mexico, from 2018-2021. He obtained a degree in environmental engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO), Mexico. He obtained a master's degree in science and technology with a specialization in environmental engineering and a doctorate in biotechnological innovation from the Center for Research and Assistance in Technology and Design of the State of Jalisco, A.C. (CIATEJ). He obtained a second doctorate in management from the University of Guadalajara with a specialty in environmental management and sustainability. He was a post-doctorate researcher at the Institute of Ecology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) from 2020 to 2021 and is currently participating in a visiting professor program at the University of Toronto Mississauga. Dr. Gradilla-Hernández specializes in the monitoring and assessment of surface water sources and in biotechnological strategies for the treatment of wastewater and solid waste. He has participated in numerous projects related to the water quality of water sources in Jalisco, such as Lake Cajititlán, Lake Atotonilco, Lake Zapotlán, and the Santiago River, and in circular economy projects for the treatment of liquid effluents from agro-industrial origin. He is a member of the national system of researchers, Candidate-Level. He has been director / co-director of 9 graduate students (including master's and doctoral). He is the author of 20 journal articles and book chapters indexed in international journals. He is currently a permanent advisor to the Bioethics and Research Commission of the State of Jalisco and a permanent member of the Board of Directors of the Council of Science and Technology of the State of Jalisco (COECyTJAL). He currently participates as scientific consultant of the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Development of the government of Jalisco and has coauthored several of the environmental programs of the State of Jalisco, such as the strategy to reduce the loss and waste of food in the state of Jalisco, the comprehensive waste management program "Jalisco Reduce", and the development of a support system for decision-making in Río Santiago.

He obtained a degree in environmental engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO), Mexico. He obtained a master's degree in science and technology with a specialization in environmental engineering and a doctorate in biotechnological innovation from the Center for Research and Assistance in Technology and Design of the State of Jalisco, A.C. He was a post-doctorate researcher at en el Laboratorio Nacional de Ciencias de la Sostenibilidad (LANCIS) ofthe Institute of Ecology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) from 2020 to 2022 and is currently participating in a visiting professor program at the University of Toronto Mississauga. Dr. Gradilla-Hernández is currently the leader of the Sustainability and Climate Change Lab initiative Tecnológico de Monterrey in Guadalajara financed by the European Union. Dr. Gradilla-Hernández is a member of the National System of Researchers (SIN-C) and specializes in the monitoring and assessment of surface water sources and in biotechnological strategies for the treatment of wastewater and solid waste. He has participated in numerous projects related to the water quality and emerging contaminants in water sources in Jalisco, such as Lake Cajititlán, Lake Atotonilco, Lake Zapotlán, and the Santiago River, and in circular economy projects for the treatment of liquid effluents from agro-industrial origin. He is a member of the national system of researchers. He has been director / co-director of 13 thesis (including master's and doctoral). He is the author of 37 journal articles and book chapters indexed in international journals. He has coauthored several of the environmental programs of the State of Jalisco, such as the strategy to reduce the loss and waste of food in the state of Jalisco, the comprehensive waste management program "Jalisco Reduce", and the development of a support system for decision-making in Río Santiago.
