Dr. Alejandro Santos is a research professor at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico City. His academic career has been in the field of biomedical engineering, specializing in medical imaging. He received his doctoral degree from McMaster University in Canada for his work on developing pulse sequences for magnetic resonance spectroscopy. He has 12 years of teaching experience in the area of biomedical engineering and has also served as the director of the program of the same name at the Mexico City campus. He is currently a member of the National System of Researchers at level 1 (SNI-1) and his research areas focus on medical image processing for diagnosis and the use of artificial intelligence tools for the same purpose. His most recent projects have focused on developing artificial intelligence algorithms for lung lesion segmentation caused by COVID-19 infection and developing an automatic radiology report generation system using deep learning techniques. Additionally, due to his passion for teaching biomedical engineering, he participates in research projects on innovative learning techniques in this same area. Given his experience, he also serves as a reviewer of scientific articles for indexed journals such as PlosOne and Nature Scientific Reports. He is co-author of more than 30 publications, including journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters.
