García-Kerdan, Iván

Overview

Dr Garcia Kerdan is the Regional Head (Mexico City) for the Department of Sustainable Technologies and Civil Engineering. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (Mechatronics) and a MSc in Energy and Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Later, Dr Garcia Kerdan obtained a PhD in Energy and Engineering from the Energy Institute at University College London (UCL), by researching into new methods to improve energy performance of building and its systems. During his doctoral studies he developed an exergoeconomic-based optimisation software for retrofit designs of building energy systems. Ivan spent three years as Research Associate at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Imperial College London funded by the Newton Fund fellowship. In this role he developed new simulation and optimisation energy systems modelling frameworks. Part of the research considered the techno-economic aspects of building energy systems and its potential impact on achieving global and national decarbonisation targets. Also, he spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at the Engineering Institute, UNAM developing methods that included machine learning and neural networks for energy systems design. Before starting his current position, Dr Garcia Kerdan was an Associate Professor and Programme Leader for Sustainable Building Design and Engineering at the University of Greenwich.
Dr. Iván García Kerdan is an Associate Professor and Regional Head for the Department of Sustainable and Civil Technologies in the Mexico City Region. Additionally, he is a visiting researcher from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/people/i.garcia-kerdan). Dr. García Kerdan holds a degree in Mechatronic Engineering and a Master's in Energy Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He also obtained a Ph.D. in Energy Engineering from the Energy Institute at University College London (UCL). Dr. García Kerdan spent three years as a Research Associate in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, funded by the Newton Fund scholarship, where he developed new frameworks for simulating and optimizing energy systems. Part of his research focused on the techno-economic aspects of energy systems in various sectors and their potential impact on achieving national and global decarbonization goals. He was also a postdoctoral researcher at the UNAM Engineering Institute, working on methods involving machine learning and neural networks for energy system design. Before his current position, Dr. García Kerdan was an Associate Professor and leader of the sustainable building design and engineering program at the University of Greenwich in the United Kingdom.
